This was a thrilling survival horror series combining the suspense and horror elements of this genre, but with dinosaurs. It was also one of my all-time favourite survival horror video game series (at least, Dino Crisis 1 and 2 were, I couldn’t really get on with 3).
As a huge fan of the Resident Evil series, and an even bigger fan of Jurassic Park, Dino Crisis hit all my buttons.
Dino Crisis is a survival horror video game series that was developed and published by Capcom. The series was created by Shinji Mikami, the mastermind behind the Resident Evil series. The first game in the series was released in 1999 for the PlayStation console, and it was later ported to other platforms. The series has since spawned two sequels, Dino Crisis 2 and Dino Crisis 3.
The Dino Crisis series is set in a world where dinosaurs have been brought back to life through a space time warp, I believe from an energy experiment. The games follow the adventures of a team of scientists and soldiers who are sent to investigate a research facility where the dinosaurs have escaped. The games are known for their intense survival horror gameplay and their use of dinosaurs as enemies. The developers redubbed this series as “panic horror” as opposed to “survival horror” due to the nature of the enemy being swift, agile predators like the raptors or huge beasts capable of smashing their head into a building to capture you rather than hordes of shuffling zombies with limited ammo.
Trying to outsmart these menacing dinosaurs was definitely cool departure from undead zombies.
The first game in the series, Dino Crisis, was a critical and commercial success. The game featured a unique blend of survival horror and action gameplay, with players needing to use their wits and weapons to survive against the dangerous dinosaurs. The game also featured multiple endings, adding to its replayability.
The second game in the series, Dino Crisis 2, was released in 2000.
The game featured a more action-oriented gameplay style, with players needing to use their weapons and skills to take down hordes of dinosaurs. The game also featured a variety of different weapons and upgrades that players could use to customize their gameplay experience.
The third game in the series, Dino Crisis 3, was released in 2003 for the Xbox console. The game was set in space and featured a more futuristic setting than the previous games in the series. The game also featured a variety of different gameplay mechanics, including zero-gravity combat and the ability to pilot a spaceship.
The Dino Crisis series is known for its intense survival horror gameplay, its use of dinosaurs as enemies, and its unique blend of action and horror elements. The series has a dedicated fanbase that loves the games for their challenging gameplay and their immersive atmosphere. The series has also inspired several other games over the years, including the popular Turok series.

I tried the original Resident Evil a few years ago and found that as much as I love it, I was better off watching someone else playing it, the original dynamics I found too clunky. I’m very grateful they remastered the series!
