I think I discovered Mark Witton’s work on Facebook, which led me to Patreon, which led me down a rabbit hole of amazing dinosaur art, scientific studies and speculation.

Quite frankly, I came to look at more artist renditions but I was blown away by the level of detail in Mark’s drawings and articles.

Any serious dinosaur fan should consider supporting Mark’s work over on Patreon, giving them access to a treasure trove of dinosaur knowledge and art work.

You can find Mark’s work here:

For as little as $1 you can access in-progress art work, his articles and a vast selection of finished, high quality pictures of dinosaurs in context of modern understanding and speculation.

The higher tiers give you more perks, such as a print of one of the art pieces.

The content ranges from the facial reconstruction of Giganotosaurus to the Art and Science of Crystal Palace Dinosaurs.

The former has artwork and an in depth look at the reconstruction of this mighty creature from available evidence, and the latter is a book authored by Mark Witton and Elinor Michel. This covers the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs, an important relic of early discovery which really helps our understanding of how dinosaurs were viewed and put together with what information was available at the time. By just looking at the sculptures, you can see why people thought of dinosaurs as lumbering, dim-witted creatures until more recent times.

Mark and Ellinor’s book is available as of September 2022 and looks like a welcome addition to any academic or more casual dinosaur fan!

You can find it below with Amazon or other retail outlets, and proceeds from the book help support Friends of Crystal Palace Dinosaurs, who help to protect and support the world’s first dinosaur statues at Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace will be covered under a future post as this place really highlights not just the history of dinosaurs and their place in the public and academic minds, but a glimpse into the history of science itself!

Ever since I was a kid, first in 1993, I was obsessed about how the dinosaurs would free roam around the abandoned park and…

    Could Dinosaurs Swim?

Quick answer? No and Yes… No because generally dinosaurs were land dwellers, and yes because of birds. There were, of course, dinosaurs that lived near water, and other, non-dinosaur reptiles that lived in and around the waters, but dinosaurs in general did not evolve the ability to swim as far we know (and as far…
