Since Jurassic Park was released in 1993, the franchise has captured the imagination of millions and brought dinosaurs & science to a new level. It would be great to know how many kids grew up to be palaeontologists, scientists or even media professionals such as special effects and actors!

Then came the sequels in 1997 and 2001, The Lost World and Jurassic Park respectively. THEN came the Jurassic World trilogy, injecting new blood into the franchise for a new generation, whilst aiming to keep the original fans happy.

Is Jurassic Park the novel like the Jurassic Park Movie?

All the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies take something from the books, but the 1993 original takes most from the first novel. They however, quite different to each other. This will be covered in a future article.

The park is still on an island off Costa Rica, roughly 120 miles from the Central American country. The island is Isla Nubla which is leased by InGen, a genetics research company founded and ran by John Hammond. Overall the main characters are the same but some major changes were made.

The next novel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park goes down a similar route, although the second book seems to draw from the original movie- partly due to the author Michael Crichton and Stephen Spielberg drawing from each other and wanting different things but again this will be covered in a later article.

How Many Jurassic Park Books are There?

Two. Jurassic Park & The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Though I’m yet to find an English version of the Lost World on Audible. There is a German version but that’s it as far as I can tell.

Jurassic Park Book Vs the Movie

If you’ve found this because you’re a fan of the movies or looking for a gift of a fan of the movies, you really cannot go wrong. As long as you go into knowing it isn’t the movie, any Jurassic fan should enjoy it, whether they are of the Jurassic Park or Jurassic World generation.

Why Audiobook and Not a Paper Version?

First of all, if you’re a new customer to Audible, it’s free. And as Audible is a part of Amazon, it’s pretty much everywhere.

Secondly, with modern devices being able to play music, podcasts and audiobooks wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, you don’t need to stop to read a book!

Headphones, car radio, Alexa or Google-style home speakers, etc mean you can listen to the Jurassic Park novel no matter what you’re doing.

Personally, I’ve listened to it when driving, washing up, going to sleep, and more often than not when at the gym. It’s even better when your devices can pick up where you left off when, let’s say, you drive home and it takes it from your car and resumes on any device at home.

The particular audiobook linked in this post is narrated by Scott Brick. I haven’t heard any other books with his work but I’ve always been happy with this recording. He does a great job of the dry, technical stuff as well as the character dialogue.

By clicking the banners on this page or the Jurassic Park audiobook image, you can create an Audible account, claim your free Jurassic Park audiobook and keep it forever. Whether you continue after the free trial or not!

If you decide to continue with Audible after your free trial, you will receive one credit each month for a low price (I believe under $10 as of now, but it will tell you the current price when signing up) which allows you to buy any book in their library, regardless of what you’d pay without being a member. Whether it’s $2.99 or $299, it’s yours for that one credit! There are many very high quality dinosaur audiobooks on Audible, and the non fiction books often come with their own supplementary pdf materials (pictures!)

Other dinosaur related audiobooks will be covered in later posts, but for now I’d love to know what you think of Jurassic Park the novel, whether you’ve just discovered it or read it when it was first published!

    Could Dinosaurs Swim?

Quick answer? No and Yes… No because generally dinosaurs were land dwellers, and yes because of birds. There were, of course, dinosaurs that lived near water, and other, non-dinosaur reptiles that lived in and around the waters, but dinosaurs in general did not evolve the ability to swim as far we know (and as far…
